Hey all, I know that US News has unfair ranking methodologies and gives schools like Wesleyan ranks way lower than what it deserves. So I was wondering what Wesleyans rank is realistically, or what schools is Wesleyan equal to. I am not going to let something like rank decide where I end up but I am interested to see how Wesleyan stacks up in realty to the other LAC's. Thanks for any responses!

Early Decision 1 Application says Awaiting Midyear report
Hi! My ED application says that it is "awaiting a midyear report", but right next to that, it says "ED 2 and Regular". I submitted my first quarter grades; does that mean my application is complete? Thanks!

No Interview
I requested an interview from Wesleyan at the end of October. The deadline to request one was in December, but I wanted to wait until I got my EA results to submit my application. I received an email a few weeks ago saying that they hadn't found me an interviewer and my interest was noted. Since I know Wesleyan's interviews are evaluative, will not getting one hurt my application?

Why Wesleyan
Hello Everybody, I got denied ED1 from Bowdoin last week and was immensely disappointed. I loved everything about that school and it felt like home, none the less I am moving on and am very closing to pulling the trigger on Wesleyan for ED2. I was just looking for some reason why people love Wesleyan, and if it is a warm homey environment/easy to fit in. All responses are very much appreciated.

Hamilton Prize Application Confusion
Hello Everyone!
I'm trying to submit an application for the Hamilton Prize (long shot, but why not try? :D) and I am a little confused. Do I upload my pdf file on the attachments page or the Portfolio page?
I'm very sorry if this is a dumb question, I'd appreciate any and all help!

Applying without 4 years language nor calculus
My d18 applied rd. We live in the south and haven’t visited. I was looking at Wesleyan admission info and it says they expect students to have taken four years of foreign language and math thru calculus (among other things obviously). My d took only three years of Spanish and is taking statistics instead of calculus. She is not a stem type kid. She has taken 6 APs. She has a 4.0 GPA and a 31 ACT. My guess is that we should expect this one to be a rejection.

Chance me at Wesleyan (w/out test scores)
My problem is that, despite being a pretty strong student, I've had immense trouble with standardized tests. I don't know why... I just can't focus on the SAT/ACT. I just can't score well. I'm trying again one more time after taking a prep class, hopefully I'll see improvement. But luckily for me, one of the colleges on my list (Wesleyan) is test-optional!
GPA:
U/W: 3.96
Weighted cumulative: 4.465
Weighted 10-12: 4.81 (that's assuming I get all As senior year—I know they don't take this GPA, but I'm trying to get across that I took very rigorous classes. I've taken all honors/AP in 11th and am doing the same 12th)
Rank: I believe I'm at least top 9%, but that's all my school releases to students. We don't get specific rank.
Test Scores:
Now the embarrassing part. I'm not submitting these, of course... but I just thought you should know why, maybe :/
SAT: 1340
Reading/writing: 650, Math: 690
ACT: 27
(English is my only decent section on this test, let's just say that...)
I will be taking Math II and Spanish SAT subjects soon. I don't know how those will go, but I'm expecting to do well on Spanish. I may submit these?
AP Scores:
AP Euro (4), AP Psychology (5), AP Spanish (5), APUSH (5), Statistics (4)
I'll be sending these, I think. Not as bad as my standardized tests, lol
Awards/Honors (not anything too distinct):
National Spanish Exam gold medal
Math achievement awards- AP Statistics and Pre-Calculus Honors
Honorable mention in an art contest
AP Scholar with distinction
Extracurriculars:
Volunteer Club, Interact. Leadership positions: secretary 10th & 11th, Vice President 12th. (4 years)
Badminton Team (3 years)
Women in STEM Club, Vice President. (3 years)
Guitar and other music composition (4 years, more of a passion)
Jazz Band (2 years)
Anatomy Club. IT Officer. (3 years)
WASC Student Leader (1 year)
Internship at a software company doing QA (one summer)
I've also taken a biology course at a community college (worth credit). I've also taken CS 101 and a Statistical Modeling class online, but these 2 don't give credit.
Other information:
Race/Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Sex: Female
Income: very above average
Hooks: none :')
I think I'm a good student overall, but I do have the test score thing holding me back. I guess what I really want to know is if not submitting test scores is going to hold me back. I feel that my application is a lot stronger without standardized test scores, but I'm fearful that Wesleyan won't be accepting of me not submitting test scores because I don't really have a hook that would keep me from success on those exams. I just... suck. Lol. Crossing my fingers that I'll do well on the upcoming ACT I'm taking, but I'm doubtful.
I would REALLY appreciate feedback because this test score thing has been bothering me so much :( I feel like I won't get any school I want because of it... if you guys have any further questions about me, I'd be happy to answer!

Why Wesleyan was ranked in 21st for 2 years in US News?
As one of the "Little Three", why Wesleyan's ranking has gradually declined in US News ranking, while Williams and Amherst are consistently ranked first and second. Although I know it's not appropriate to evaluate a college/university solely based on its usnews, I believe it indeed impacts many high school seniors when they make their decisions. Does that mean Wesleyan's student quality will also decline gradually?
In addition to limited endowment, I'm wondering could anyone provide other explanations for Wesleyan's ranking?

Chemistry and Pre med at Wesleyan University?
I have recently been looking into Wesleyan University. I was wondering how strong their Chemistry department is and also how their pre med advising is. I have heard that over 90% of students get accepted into med school. If you have gone to Wes please let me know if their curriculum did a good job of preparing you for med school. Also I would like to know the overall feel of the campus and the surrounding area. I am planning on scheduling a visit in February, but just want to learn more about it before going.

Wesleyan sets new application # record yet again
As per President Roth's blog, the number of applications this admission cycle was 12,673, the third year in a row with >12,000 applications and slightly higher than last year. As last year's acceptance rate (with wait-list included) was 16.1%, I'd imagine Wesleyan will be right around 16% this year. Also of note is Wesleyan being ahead of schedule on yearly fundraising, with $27 million already in the bank at the halfway point (out of an annual goal of $35 million). Wesleyan had one of the largest endowment increases in the country this past fiscal year, and the strong fundraising should continue that momentum. Go Wes!

Kiplinger's Best Value List 2018
Wesleyan comes in at #21 - that's among all colleges and universities. Not bad for a college that is often bad-mouthed for its "tiny" billion dollar endowment. It's number ten among LACs:

waitlisted (not deferred) ED and nervous
hi! I was waitlisted and not deferred from Wesleyan early decision 1. Wes is still my absolute dream school, and I have no idea what this means and what I should do from here? Does anyone have any idea what an ED waitlist means? Is it better or worse than a deferral? (For reference, both of the other Wesleyan ED applicants at my high school, which tends to send a lot of people to Wesleyan, were straight-up rejected.) I'm feeling nervous about everything right now; I've been admitted to 4 schools, but am anxious about other decisions.
some things about me: White female at highly ranked small public school, not incredibly high financial need. I want to be a political science major, with IR and environmental studies minors.
GPA: 93.5/100, almost all honors/AP/dual credit
ACT: 33 (36 E, 36 R, 32 S, 29 M. 10 on essay)
SAT2: 740 on World History, 760 on Lit
AP Scores: (I self-studied all of these APs with the exception of Environmental Science, which I took at school.) AP Human Geo (4), AP World History (4), AP US Government (4), AP Comparative Government (5), AP Environmental Science (5). Will graduate with 10 APs.
Extracurriculars: President of Quiz Bowl, Secretariat of Model UN, Science Research, selected for a program where I shadowed New York State legislators and then founded a youth civic education/engagement club due to my genuine horror about how uninformed we are about politics, voting rights/state government activist, singer-songwriter, in select and regular chorus, high school theater, volunteer tutor, National Honors Society, etc.
my schools:
wesleyan (waitlisted ED1)
UVM (accepted with 23K a year and also got into the honors college)
beloit (accepted with 30K a year, will seriously consider going if I don't get in anywhere else)
Dickinson (accepted with 22K a year, triple legacy, will seriously consider going if I don't get in anywhere else)
Whittier (accepted with 31K a year)
Barnard (tied for second choice)
Pitzer (tied for second choice)
Bates (tied for second choice)
Scripps (one of my top choices)
Macalester (one of my top choices)
Oberlin (one of my top choices)
American U (if I get into a specialized program it will be one of my top choices)
Kenyon
Skidmore
Bryn Mawr
Connecticut College
Brown (just for fun)
Whitman
Will I be ok? Has anyone else heard of an ED waitlist? Thanks!

The Wesleyan Media Project
The WMP, one of Wesleyan’s most behind-the-scenes academic ventures, continues to exert influence on Washington, D.C. in a big way. The Project, in its eighth year of existence under the leadership of Associate Professor of Government Erika Franklin Fowler, serves as an example of how Wesleyan social science research can have an effect outside academia.
