Recommendation requirements
My son is interested in applying to Wes for class of 2023. I'm somewhat worried about the letter of recommendation requirements.
The application website states that "Two academic teacher evaluations are required. You are encouraged to submit one from a humanities or social sciences teacher and one from a math or science teacher."
My kiddo is lopsided in interests. He gets good grades in his math and science classes, but he struggles and he's not a happy student. His English, Psychology, arts, history, languages teachers all praise him to the skies, but he's not likely to get a good letter from his math teachers or science teachers. He is getting three teacher recs in total, one from an English teacher, one from the teacher who taught him Psychology and US History, and one from the theatre teacher.
Have any of you had admission success at Wes with a lopsided student who submits two teacher recs that are both in humanities/social sciences? Or, conversely, two math/science teacher recs?

Good majors at Wes
I'm looking at lacs and find that a lot of the top schools are cited to be famous for "econ, english, chem, political science, psychology" quite often, and Wesleyan seems not to be an exception. Are there any other majors that Wesleyan is particularly strong in?
Thanks!

getting into wesleyan
Hello, i am going into my junior year of high school. I failed my freshman year of high school, took all honors classes except for two. They weren't hard, i just didn't care. sophomore year i took all average classes and one honors class, i got A's in every single one and a B in the honors class. My current GPA is a 3.5790, i am aiming for a GPA of 4.0-4.1 by senior year. I am taking one AP course junior year and the rest will be honors courses, plenty of room to boost my GPA. i also plan on taking 3-5 AP classes my senior year of high school. I'm embarrassed by my PSAT score, i got a 730, which is really bad. I know i cannot boost it enough in time to qualify for the merit scholarship, but i do plan on taking the SAT four times in order to get a goal score of 1480-1500. Is this even possible? i want to get into wesleyan university. They will obviously see my improvement, (if i improve a lot). I also am planning on starting a climate change club this year upcoming year. Do i still have a chance? i hope i do, and if i don't get into wesleyan as an undergrad for freshman year, i want to try and transfer while in college.

Nics Lower Level
Hi all,
I'm an incoming freshman at Wes and we just got our housing assignments. My roommate and I are on the lower level of Nicolson (Nics 5.5 I believe it is called). I've heard these dorms are basically dungeons, is that true? Does anyone have any experience with these dorms? Any information helps! Thanks.

Admission Requirements
Hello!
So I got an information packet from Wesleyan and it said that they have an admission requirement (or at least strong recommendation) to take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It was recently announced that my school is cutting physics and chemistry is rumored to be next to go. I haven't taken physics yet (I was signed up to take it this year but it was cut so I no longer can) and I am taking chemistry this year as long as it stays. I've already taken Adv. Biology so I'm doing IB Biology HL this year. I've already had to deal with Latin being cut (I'm now doing online Spanish so that I can hopefully get "4 years of the same foreign language" done).
Should I look into taking physics (and maybe chemistry) online, or do a similar program wherever I can find it, or should I just write it into an application that it was cut before I could take it? Any other ideas would be helpful as well, though I should say I'm in the public school that I'm districted for so it would be difficult to transfer.
As you might've guessed from physics being cut, I don't have a lot of other options for a similar credit. My school is transitioning to pre-professional classes in the wake of major budget cuts and teachers leaving.
I referenced Wesleyan before but I know that other colleges have similar requirements this is just what brought it to my attention. I have goals for a liberal arts college, molecular biology/biochemistry major, and future MD-PhD in the sciences so this was quite jarring to my "plan".
Thank you so much

Wesleyan Triple Dorms
I'm a current high school senior that has verbally committed to play a sport for Wesleyan in 2019!! I also have two other friends of mine that are also attending Wes through athletics. We all want to be in a triple room (A/C preferred). When I took my visit I was in a double at Clark and it was really nice, but I've heard that the triples at Clark aren't really that different from the doubles there (in terms of spae). Which hall is the most spacious for a triple, and what are the differences from all the other ones? And are all the triple rooms one bunk bed and a single bed, or do you have the option of three single beds on the floor or raised? I did my own research but the Wes website is limited in details of how big the rooms are. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Classical Music @ Wes?
I fell in love with Wesleyan (Middletown Ct) but I'm a little concerned about classical music opportunities. I doubt I'd be a music major but I want to participate in classical voice if possible. The college choir doesn't seem super advanced to me, but are there student groups or other choirs and opportunities for non-majors?

Men's Crew @ Wes: Can I Walk On?
Hello everyone!
Just for a little background, I am from a major city in Gulf-Coast Texas, but am interested in participating in crew during college. For those not native to Texas, or the South in general, crew is basically nonexistent.
I was wondering whether it is possible to "walk-on" to the crew team, of course not at the varsity level initially, but I would like to pick it up during my freshman year.
Do any students (or parents for that matter) have any experience with walking-on to the crew team, or any athletic team for that matter?
Thanks!

The Wesleyan Media Project
The WMP, one of Wesleyan’s most behind-the-scenes academic ventures, continues to exert influence on Washington, D.C. in a big way. The Project, in its eighth year of existence under the leadership of Associate Professor of Government Erika Franklin Fowler, serves as an example of how Wesleyan social science research can have an effect outside academia.

Chances at Wesleyan University ?, does ED help?
My son wants to study graphic design (visual communication) at a smallish liberal arts college where he can minor in music. We are finding that is not available many places especially in the northeast, Wesleyan being one.
He is a senior at a notably non prestigious public school in Vermont,
GPA 3.87/4, rank 12 of 190, 4 AP classes, SATs 750/780 (super scores to 1540)
He is a busy kid with music and drama: sings in 3 + choruses, lead roles in multiple school plays, plays lead guitar and sings in a little rock and roll band that performs around town, plays guitar at local nursing home, just joined the school's jazz ensemble. Has done a little graphic design work for community organizations. He is not a leader but is a great collaborator.
I think he has a shot at Wesleyan but I know at this level of competition, luck plays a big role. (So far Skidmore is his second choice and we are about to look at Colby although there design program is not as strong looking as Skidmore and Wesleyan)
Any thoughts on increasing his chances? Would applying ED to Wesleyan help his chances?
Thank for your thoughts.

Anyone here select Wes over USC/NYU film?
If so, please share your thoughts on why you picked Wes over the usual film schools.
No doubt, Wes has a stellar reputation, esp for film, and the solid liberal arts foundation makes a better filmmaker.
I just wonder if those who choose Wes miss doing any production as first year film students. Are there Filmmaking clubs? (I didn’t see any online)
S19 honestly has his eyes set on the usual schools, but if he considered a LAC for film it would be Wes. When he started looking into the program, he was amazed by the strong alumni and faculty.

Chance me for Wesleyan?
I’m thinking of applying to Wesleyan ED. Today is the last day I have to decide, so I want to know how my chances are before I apply.
My UW GPA is 3.3, weighted is 3.9
32 ACT- 35 Reading, 35 English, 28 Science, 30 Math
Strong extracurriculars- 6 years of 2 youth orchestras, 4 years of a varsity sport
I’m from Maryland and am a first generation college student. I know my GPA isn’t great. What do you think my chances are of admission if I apply ED?
Thank you in advance!

My chances at Wesleyan University?????
Hello! I am planning on applying to Wesleyan ED1 next month and was wondering about my admission chances. I like the open curriculum and am looking for a small liberal arts school in the northeast.
My school doesn't report GPA, but given my transcript I'd say it's about 3.8 UW and 4.1 W.
ACT: 33
Course load (school doesn't offer honors classes just AP):
- 9th grade english, history, french 3, geometry, biology
- 10th grade engish, french 4, advanced algebra, chemistry, history
- 11th grade AP Lang, AP french, APUSH, AP Chemistry, precalc
- 12th grade AP lit, French 6, AP world, AP physics, calculus
Extracurriculars:
- Volunteer EMT (certified last year)
- work at a local French cafe
- Editor-in-chief of highschool newspaper
- co-founder of school's Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Association
- varsity lacrosse and squash for 4 years
- President of school's science publication
I am undecided, but interested in journalism, creative writing, anthropology/archaeology, medicine, and history.
I am half white and half asian and go to an all girls school with about 80 kids in each grade.
What do you think my admission chances look like? And what similar schools should I look at?
Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!
